I’ve done the exact same thing over the past 12 or so months. I no longer read any news applications (I’ve removed the News app from my home screen) or watch any specific news channels.

I now spead my reading time mostly on books, medium and blogs of people I look up to and admire. My watching time is almost solely dedicated to TED talks and documentaries.

I agree with Thomas Jefferson entirely. I feel I am infinitely happier for staying away from the daily drag down that newspapers and news channels have become. There’s so much more happening in life than what mainstream news will tell you. It’s up to you to decide what you’re going to pay attention to.

Thich Nhat Hanh said it perfectly, simply turning on the television these days puts you at risk of altering your state of mind from that of positivity and creativity, to that of negativity and fear.

I don’t know if I’ll ever actively read or watch the news again. That fact may put me in a minority, but I’m sure if everyone did a month off of news, the world would be a better place.
