As for getting a promotion, it really depends on where you want to go.

I’m a fan of either:

• Being so good they can’t ignore you (improving yourself to the point where promotion is inevitable)
• Creating your own role where you’re uniquely good at (start your own thing, approach your employer with a proposition)

As for MOOCs, they’re amazing. I love them. But you can assume everything taught in a MOOC is becoming a commodity. The difference still lies in what you do with what you learn. What do you create with what you learn?

That’s something which can’t be taught.

And it’s up to you to figure it out.
